Zhipeng Wang

Zhipeng Wang’s Heart of Ocean #24 achieves a profound sense of natural beauty and introspection within the intimate scale of a brooch. The work centers on a gracefully contoured pink shell, its iridescent surface shimmering with gradients of rose and white pearl tones that respond subtly to shifting light. Two luminous Akoya pearls are thoughtfully positioned within the upper contours of the heart-like form, serving as focal points that evoke both ocular presence and emotional depth. Sterling silver and stainless steel wire form a structural framework, allowing the organic materials to command attention while ensuring wearability and balance.

The physical presence of the brooch reveals Wang’s sensitivity to material interplay and proportion. Born in Anhui, China, in 1996 and shaped by studies at the China Academy of Art and the Academy of Fine Arts Munich, Wang consistently draws upon materials imbued with cultural significance. Here, the oceanic references and marine elements evoke fluidity, transformation, and the connective power of global waters.
