Leonore Jock’s ring series presents a focused exploration of form and surface through a minimalist yet sculpturally assertive vocabulary. Each ring consists of a cylindrical silver volume, joined visibly to emphasize its construction, with brightly colored enamel interiors that add a surprise note of contrast. The outer surfaces are left with a satin finish, allowing the solder seams and shaping marks to remain integral to the aesthetic.
Jock’s rings rely on material contrast and compositional balance. The thick-walled volumes suggest utility, making reference to pipes, containers, and conduits, even though they function solely as adornment. There is a tactile directness in the way they are made: their seams are not hidden but highlighted, a nod to process that resists polish in favor of honesty.
This work invites the wearer to consider both the structural integrity and the visual weight of the pieces. The colored enamel interiors are at times acidic and soft. Serving not just as visual accents but as a signal that what is hidden can be just as deliberate as what is seen.
In stripping the ring of traditional elegance and embracing a utilitarian sensibility, Jock opens a space for new interpretations of beauty. This work is rooted in the act of making and the visibility of structure.
