More than decoration. Contemporary art jewelry as desire, discourse, and discovery.

Maria Brossa

Maria Brossa’s “Semi” earrings embrace a visual language of minimalism with bold intimacy. Each earring features a bulbous red form, matte in surface, and organic in silhouette. They are suggestive of botanical buds or soft anatomical vessels. Their open ends tilt slightly to the side, adding a sense of anticipation or quiet movement.

Suspended from simple black wire hoops, the forms hang freely, turning the act of wearing into a tactile encounter. The reduced color palette and hand formed texture create a striking contrast between restraint and sensuality, inviting the viewer to slow down and look closer.

By stripping her materials down to form and hue, Brossa makes room for symbolism to emerge quietly. Red here is evocative of warmth, life, and tenderness, but it resists cliché by remaining abstract. These earrings do not shout for attention but instead hum with a private rhythm, becoming extensions of the body they adorn. As part of a broader practice informed by theater, graphic design, and silkscreen printing, Brossa’s “Semi” series reflects an artist who values shape and space as communicative tools, allowing jewelry to speak in whispers rather than declarations.
