More than decoration. Contemporary art jewelry as desire, discourse, and discovery.

Maria Zureta

Maria Zureta’s necklace is a collision of histories. A collection of symbols gathered from different times and places, all bound together in a single composition. At its center, a vintage metal casting shows the profile of a Greek figure, evoking the weight of antiquity. Suspended from it are an eclectic mix of charms. A micro mosaic mandala, a bone cross inscribed with INRI, a jade-green figa, and a cascade of miniature pendants. Each piece carries its own meaning, hinting at protection, faith, memory, and fortune.

This upcycled work is a study in contrast and continuity. The interplay of worn metals, reclaimed chains, and disparate elements creates a sense of movement, as if the necklace is in the process of collecting more stories. Zureta’s approach to jewelry embraces imperfection and the passage of time, making each piece a wearable archive of past lives and forgotten objects. This is jewelry as storytelling, where every charm holds a secret and every connection is part of something larger.
